Lucknow locations that actually photograph well

Lucknow gives you Awadhi architecture that no set designer can match, but most of it is ticketed and busy by 9am. Bara Imambara and the Rumi Darwaza are the postcard frames — go at opening time and work fast. The British Residency is the quieter choice and, for our money, the better one: ruined brick, deep shade and long lawns that hold light well into the evening. Chhota Imambara and Dilkusha Kothi both reward a slower session.

For something modern, the Gomti Riverfront and Janeshwar Mishra Park give you open sky and clean lines — useful if your outfits are heavy and you want the background to stay quiet. Permissions for tripods and lights at the heritage monuments need to be arranged in advance; we handle that paperwork rather than leaving it to you.

Wedding venues cluster in Gomti Nagar, along Sultanpur Road and Faizabad Road, and around Hazratganj for the smaller hotel functions. Lucknow weddings tend to run late and the sangeet is usually the biggest production of the week, so we plan the film around it rather than treating it as a warm-up. We drive up from Prayagraj — about four and a half hours — and arrive a day early for any function starting before noon.
